The preferred types of brushes :The types and uses of various watercolour papers .
Now let’s put paint to paper and try it!

WEEK 2
An introduction to colour and how to avoid muddy paintings!
One of the reasons that even those with some experience in watercolour painting end up with dull, muddy colours is that they haven’t grasped some basic principles of colour and how best to mix colours. For instance which reds and yellows would you use to you mix a vibrant orange?...or how do you get a bright spring greens, warm olive greens or dark greens ….without using manufactured greens from a tube!
This session is a must and through a mixture of practical guidance and exercises you can say goodbye to muddy paintings!

WEEK 3
Key Watercolour Painting Approaches
Two of the key approaches to painting in watercolour are using “Wet on Wet” and/or “Wet on Dry”. We will explore how these approaches may best be used to improve your paintings. Basically, Wet on Wet means what it says - applying wet paint to wetted paper which results in soft-edged blurs. Wet on Dry involves applying paint to dry paper on top of an earlier dry wash that has dried completely.
There will be hands on exercises to practise these techniques.

WEEK 4
Watercolour techniques
There are a wide range of techniques and effects that can be used in watercolour painting such as resists, spattering, stippling, drybrush. We will look at how these techniques have been used in a range of paintings. We will then explore when best to use these effects.
Be prepared to enjoy practising these effects!

WEEK 5
Applying Washes
Knowing how to apply washes is a key ingredient of watercolour painting. A wash is basically the term used to describe the process of applying watercolour paint, initially in a single layer. The main types of washes will be covered!
Practice makes perfect....and this is the ideal time to start practising!
